Retrieval runs on the ask server when available; otherwise BM25 and dense run in the browser from /rag/. Generation runs on-device in a Web Worker (transformers.js v4 · AutoModel · WebGPU q4 · shader warmup). Nothing leaves your machine after the model download — with one exception: turning on Web search in Options sends that question to DuckDuckGo through this site. It is off by default.
